Overview

The Gurung Village Trek is a beautifully paced Annapurna foothills journey that focuses on village culture, comfortable walking days, and classic mid-hill scenery rather than extreme altitude. You begin in Kathmandu, fly to Pokhara, then start trekking from the Dhampus area through traditional settlements like Landruk, Chhomrong, and Ghandruk, where Gurung hospitality and everyday mountain life are part of the experience.

Accommodation on the trail is in local teahouse lodges – and while these are simpler than luxury lodges, we select the best available options for comfort, cleanliness, and service. The route offers a rewarding mix of terraced farmland, forest paths, stone village lanes, and frequent viewpoints on clear days, then finishes with relaxed time in Pokhara before returning to Kathmandu.

Highlights

  • A cultural trek through classic Gurung villages – Landruk, Chhomrong, and Ghandruk
  • Comfortable foothill altitude profile with rewarding scenery and village life
  • Terraced hillsides, forest trails, and lived-in rural landscapes
  • Stone lanes and traditional village architecture in Ghandruk
  • A well-balanced itinerary with time to enjoy Pokhara after the trek

  • Great option for travelers who want the Himalaya without long high-altitude trekking
  • Scenic flight connections between Kathmandu and Pokhara (weather dependent)

Itinerary

Day 1Arrive in KathmanduOvernight: 1350 m

Arrive in Nepal’s capital and transfer to your hotel. The day is kept light so you can rest, hydrate, and settle in smoothly after travel.
If you arrive early, a gentle walk and a relaxed dinner is a great way to ease into Kathmandu’s atmosphere.

Day 2Kathmandu | Optional World Heritage SightseeingOvernight: 1350 m

A flexible day for preparation and orientation. This is the best time for a trek briefing, final gear check, and making sure everything is set for the hills.
If you want, you can also add optional sightseeing and still keep the day comfortable and unhurried.

Day 3Fly to PokharaOvernight: 815 m

Fly to Pokhara and settle into Nepal’s most relaxed mountain gateway. The change of pace is immediate - lakeside calm, great food, and a softer, holiday-like mood.
Depending on your arrival time, you can enjoy a short lakeside walk, café time, or simply rest well before trekking begins.

Day 4Trek to LandrukOvernight: 1565 m

Drive to Dhampus and begin your trek on classic Annapurna foothill trails through terraced farmland and small settlements. The route feels lived-in and local, with village life happening all around you.
Landruk is a charming village to arrive in, and you stay in a carefully selected local teahouse lodge for a cozy first night on the trail.

Day 5Trek to ChhomrongOvernight: 2170 m

Today you continue deeper into the foothills toward Chhomrong, a well-known village on the Annapurna Sanctuary approach. The trail is varied, often mixing hillside walking with stone steps and changing viewpoints as the valleys open and close.
You settle into a good-quality local teahouse lodge, enjoy a hearty meal, and feel the mountain air become cooler as you gain altitude.

Day 6Trek to GhandrukOvernight: 1940 m

You leave the Chhomrong area and trek toward Ghandruk, transitioning into the heart of Gurung village country. The day has a nice rhythm, moving through a mix of forest paths, terraced hillsides, and traditional settlements.
Ghandruk is a beautiful place to end the trekking portion - stone lanes, mountain culture, and a comfortable teahouse stay that we select for the best available standards.

Day 7Drive to PokharaOvernight: 815 m
