Overview
This itinerary blends three big Everest-region experiences into one smooth progression – the Gokyo valley and its famous lakes, the dramatic Cho La crossing into the Khumbu, and the classic Everest Base Camp trail – topped off with a summit attempt on Lobuche Peak. You begin in Kathmandu (Kathmandu Guest House – KGH), fly to Lukla, and build altitude steadily through Sherpa villages to Namche, then continue up the Gokyo side for quieter trails and beautiful high-valley scenery.
After acclimatization days in Gokyo, you cross Cho La into the Khumbu, move into climbing mode at Lobuche Base Camp (camping support), and attempt the summit. You then continue to Gorak Shep for your Everest Base Camp visit and finish with the famous Kala Patthar viewpoint before descending comfortably through Pangboche and Namche back to Lukla.
Highlights
- Gokyo Valley approach with high glacial lakes and a quieter trail atmosphere
- Sunrise hike to Gokyo Ri for one of the best panoramic viewpoints in the region
- Cross Cho La Pass for a dramatic, high-mountain transition into the Khumbu
- Lobuche Base Camp climbing experience with expedition-style support and preparation
- Lobuche Peak summit attempt – a true alpine day with glacier travel and fixed-rope sections
- Everest Base Camp visit – the legendary staging ground of Everest expeditions
- Kala Patthar viewpoint hike for the most iconic close-up Everest panorama
- Classic Sherpa villages and monasteries through Namche, Khunde, and Pangboche
- Well-paced acclimatization built in before both the pass and the summit day
Itinerary
Day 1Arrive in Kathmandu | Transfer to KGHOvernight: 1350 m
Arrive in Kathmandu and we transfer you to Kathmandu Guest House (KGH). The day is kept light so you can rest and recover from travel. If you arrive early, you can take an easy walk nearby and pick up last-minute items like snacks, batteries, and sun protection. In the evening, we keep things calm and review the overall trek and climbing flow.
Day 2Kathmandu | Optional World Heritage SightseeingOvernight: 1350 m
This second Kathmandu day can be used for Optional World Heritage Sightseeing and trip preparation. We use the time for a detailed briefing, gear check, and planning for the early mountain flight. Because this is an Everest region itinerary, this day can also be used to drive to Manthali (Ramechhap) if flights are operating from there. A relaxed evening and good sleep help a lot before the flight day.
Day 3Flight to Lukla, trek to MonjoOvernight: 2849 m
You fly into Lukla and begin trekking along the Dudh Koshi valley, crossing suspension bridges and passing small Sherpa settlements. The first trekking day is intentionally gentle so you settle into the altitude comfortably. The trail feels lively and scenic, with river sounds and forest sections setting the Everest-region mood right away. You end in Monjo and rest well for the Namche climb tomorrow.
Day 4Trek to Namche BazaarOvernight: 3440 m
Today you enter Sagarmatha National Park and continue up the valley as the terrain becomes more mountainous. The final climb into Namche is a classic moment - the town appears across the hillside in its amphitheatre setting. After arrival, we keep the afternoon light with warm food, hydration, and rest. Namche’s mountain-town atmosphere is a great place to settle in before moving higher.
Day 5Trek to Khunde (Everest View hike day)Overnight: 3839 m
You hike out of Namche toward the Khumjung valley side, using this day for acclimatization and culture. The walk is paced to gain height safely and return to sleep higher than Namche, without rushing too far. Along the way, you can include the Everest View ridge area for big panorama moments in clear weather. Khunde is quiet and traditional, making it a comfortable overnight away from the busier main trail.
Day 6Trek to DoleOvernight: 4038 m
You continue toward the Gokyo side, and the trail becomes calmer as you move away from the main Everest Base Camp corridor. The scenery shifts through forest and high-valley paths, with a steady progression in altitude. Dole is a common staging village in this valley and works well for acclimatization. The evening is best kept simple - warm food, hydration, and early rest.
Day 7Trek to MachhermoOvernight: 4470 m
The valley opens up more as you climb higher, and the landscape starts to feel colder and more alpine. This is a classic acclimatization stage where steady pacing matters more than speed. Machhermo is a well-known overnight stop before reaching Gokyo, and it feels noticeably more remote than the lower villages. You arrive with time to rest and prepare for the high lake zone tomorrow.
Day 8Trek to GokyoOvernight: 4790 m
You trek into the upper valley and reach Gokyo, one of the most iconic high settlements in the Everest region. The first views of the lakes area are a major highlight and the atmosphere feels distinctly high-Himalayan. This is a day to arrive, settle in, and keep energy steady for the viewpoint hikes ahead. The evening is crisp and quiet, perfect for an early night.
Day 9Gokyo 5th Lake day tripOvernight: 4790 m
A full day in Gokyo gives you time to explore without rushing, which helps both safety and enjoyment. You take a day hike toward the 5th Lake area for higher valley views and a more remote, expansive feel. The walk is paced as an acclimatization outing - gain height, enjoy the scenery, and return for better sleep in Gokyo. Another night here makes the next day’s Gokyo Ri hike more comfortable.
Day 10 Trek to ThaknakOvernight: 4730 m
Day 11Trek to Zonglha (via Cho La Pass)Overnight: 4830 m
Today is a dramatic transition day as you cross Cho La and move from the Gokyo side into the Khumbu side. The route often includes snow and glacier sections depending on season, so steady pacing and careful footing are important. The landscape feels rugged and high-mountain, with a real sense of crossing between two major valleys. You descend to Zonglha (also commonly written Dzongla) for the night and rest well before the climbing section begins.
Day 12Trek to Lobuche Base CampOvernight: 4900 m
You trek toward the Lobuche area and transition into climbing mode. From the main trekking corridor you move up to Lobuche Base Camp, where the feel becomes more expedition-like. This is typically a camping-supported night, focused on settling in, staying warm, and preparing equipment. The evening includes practical checks and a calm early rest before summit day.
Day 13Lobuche Peak summit dayOvernight: 4900 m
This is the main climbing day and it starts very early to make the most of stable morning conditions. The climb is a true alpine experience that usually involves glacier travel, crampons, and fixed ropes in steeper sections, guided by your climbing team. Summit success always depends on conditions and group readiness, so the focus is safe pacing and smart decision-making. After the summit attempt, you descend back down and recover with warm food and rest.
Day 14 Trek to LobucheOvernight: 4940 m
Today is a recovery and repositioning day after the summit push. You return to the main trail and settle into lodge comfort again, which often feels like a big reward after the camp nights. The afternoon is best used for rest, hydration, and letting your body recover before the EBC section. Even though you are still high, most guests feel stronger once the climb is complete.
Day 15Trek to Gorak Shep | Visit Everest Base CampOvernight: 5164 m
You trek to Gorak Shep, the highest lodge settlement on the classic Everest trail, then continue to Everest Base Camp as a day visit. The base camp walk is a major milestone - glacier terrain, dramatic mountain walls, and the feeling of standing at the legendary expedition staging area. You return to Gorak Shep for the night because sleeping lower than base camp is the smart acclimatization choice. The evening is kept warm and calm, preparing for the Kala Patthar hike.
Day 16Kala Patthar hike | Trek to LobucheOvernight: 4938 m
You start early for the Kala Patthar viewpoint hike, timed for the best light and clearer mountain views. This is the most famous panorama day on the Everest trail and is often the highlight for photography. After returning from the viewpoint, you trek back down to Lobuche, which usually feels easier on breathing after the Gorak Shep night. The evening is a good time for a relaxed meal and steady recovery.
Day 17Trek to PangbocheOvernight: 3950 m
You descend into greener terrain and return to Sherpa village life, with forests and stone-walled fields appearing again. Pangboche is a culturally rich village and a comfortable place to reset after the high, glacial zone. Dropping altitude often improves appetite and sleep quality noticeably. The afternoon is relaxed and ideal for rest and a calm village evening.
Day 18Trek to NamcheOvernight: 3440 m
You continue descending through classic Khumbu trails back toward Namche. The air becomes richer and the walk often feels much more comfortable compared to the high valley days. Returning to Namche feels like coming back to the region’s main hub, with more lodge options and a lively atmosphere. This is a great evening for a celebratory meal and a relaxed night.
Day 19Trek to LuklaOvernight: 2860 m
Your final trekking day follows the familiar Dudh Koshi valley route back to Lukla. The trail feels more active and connected as you approach the airstrip village. Arriving in Lukla is the traditional finish moment for Everest region journeys. An early night is recommended because flights are weather dependent and usually operate early.
Day 20Flight to Kathmandu | Transfer to KGHOvernight: 1350 m
You fly out from Lukla, with the arrival point depending on seasonal flight operations. If flights are routed via Manthali (Ramechhap), you land there and then drive to Kathmandu. Once in Kathmandu, we transfer you back to Kathmandu Guest House (KGH) for a comfortable evening. This is the perfect time for a long shower, a good meal, and relaxed packing.
Day 21Kathmandu | Optional World Heritage SightseeingOvernight: 1350 m
A free day in Kathmandu at KGH for rest, shopping, or Optional World Heritage Sightseeing. This day also works as a buffer in case Lukla flights shift due to weather, protecting your international departure. Most guests keep it easy with café time and a farewell dinner. We keep the schedule unhurried so departure day feels smooth.
Day 22Depart | Transfer to TIA
We transfer you to Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) for your onward flight home.
