Overview

The Khumbu Panorama Trek is a shorter Everest-region journey that focuses on classic Khumbu scenery and Sherpa culture without pushing into the very high trekking zones. You fly to Lukla, follow the Dudh Koshi valley to Monjo and Namche Bazaar, then spend time above Namche in the Khumjung Valley (Khunde area) with a visit to the famous Everest View Hotel ridge for sweeping Himalayan panoramas.

Instead of continuing toward Everest Base Camp, you take a quieter and more traditional route to Thame, a beautiful Sherpa village in the upper Bhote Koshi valley, before looping back through Namche and returning to Lukla. It is an ideal option for travelers who want a genuine Everest region experience – mountain views, monasteries, village life, and national park trails – in a comfortable timeframe.

Highlights

  • Scenic flight to Lukla, the gateway to the Everest region
  • Walk the Dudh Koshi valley trail to Monjo, just below the national park entrance checkpoint
  • Namche Bazaar – the Sherpa capital and the region’s main trading hub
  • Clear-day panoramas from the Everest View Hotel ridge (Everest and surrounding peaks)
  • Explore the Khumjung Valley area and visit Khunde Hospital, founded by Sir Edmund Hillary’s Himalayan Trust
  • Trek to Thame, a quieter Sherpa village on the historic upper valley route
  • A strong cultural focus with monasteries, mani walls, chortens, and authentic Sherpa village life
  • Beautiful ridgeline scenery above Namche with frequent mountain viewpoints
  • A well-paced itinerary with natural acclimatization built in
  • A satisfying loop trek that returns through Namche and finishes in Lukla

Itinerary

Day 1Arrive in KathmanduOvernight: 1350 m

Arrive in Nepal’s capital and transfer to your hotel. Keep the day light - rest, hydrate, and settle in so you start the trek feeling fresh.
If you arrive early, a relaxed walk and an early dinner is a great way to ease into Nepal’s rhythm.

Day 2KathmanduOvernight: 1350 m

A full day in Kathmandu for trip preparation and a proper briefing. This is the best time to check gear, organise any last essentials, and make sure everything is comfortable for the mountain days ahead.
If you want sightseeing, this is your easiest day to explore Kathmandu’s heritage areas without rushing.

Day 3Fly to Lukla, trek to MonjoOvernight: 2850 m

Fly into Lukla and begin trekking along the Dudh Koshi valley on a well-established trail used by Everest trekkers. The route passes through small settlements, suspension bridges, and forested riverside paths with constant movement of local life and trekking activity.
You finish in Monjo, a classic stopping point just below the Sagarmatha National Park entrance area.

Day 4Trek to NamcheOvernight: 3440 m

You enter Sagarmatha National Park and follow the river upstream, crossing high suspension bridges and gradually gaining altitude as the valley tightens. The final climb into Namche is one of the trek’s signature moments - the town reveals itself across the hillside like a natural amphitheatre.
After arrival, the rest of the day is perfect for a warm meal, a hot shower, and a relaxed evening in the Sherpa hub of the Khumbu.

Day 5Trek to Khunde (visit to Everest View Hotel)Overnight: 3840 m

Today you climb above Namche into the Khumjung Valley area, where trails open to wider views and the air feels crisp and alpine. En route, you visit the Everest View Hotel ridge, widely known for panoramic Himalayan scenery and famous for its high-altitude setting.
You continue to Khunde, a traditional Sherpa village beside Khumjung, and a meaningful cultural stop thanks to the presence of Khunde Hospital.

Day 6Trek to ThameOvernight: 3800 m

You descend back toward the main valley corridor and then follow the quieter route into the upper Bhote Koshi side, a noticeable shift away from the busier Everest Base Camp highway. The trail feels more local and traditional, with open valley views and a calmer village rhythm.
Thame is a beautiful Sherpa village and an important cultural landmark of the region, with a strong monastery presence and deep local history.

Day 7Trek to NamcheOvernight: 3440 m

Retrace the upper valley route back toward Namche, enjoying a different perspective on the landscape as you return to the main hub. The day has a comfortable flow - steady walking, village tea stops, and classic Khumbu scenery.
Back in Namche, you can enjoy the lively atmosphere again, with cafés, bakeries, and shops that feel surprisingly vibrant for this altitude.

Day 8Trek to LuklaOvernight: 2860 m

Today is your return journey down the Dudh Koshi valley. You cross familiar suspension bridges and pass through villages that now feel like old friends, with forest sections becoming greener as you lose altitude.
Arriving in Lukla is a satisfying end-of-trek moment - a chance to celebrate, rest well, and get ready for the flight out.

Day 9Fly to Kathmandu / Manthali, RamechhapOvernight: 1350 m

Take the mountain flight back to Kathmandu and transfer to your hotel. After days on the trail, city comfort feels like a reward - a proper shower, great food, and a slower evening.
This is also a good time to do souvenir shopping or enjoy a farewell dinner.

Day 10KathmanduOvernight: 1350 m

A free day in Kathmandu for rest, shopping, or optional sightseeing. It also serves as a practical buffer in case of flight delays from Lukla, which can happen due to mountain weather.
Keep it easy and enjoy a final relaxed day before departure.

Day 11Depart | Transfer to TIA

Transfer to the airport for your onward flight.
