Overview

The Khumbu Panorama Trek Extended is a more immersive version of the classic Everest-region “panorama” route – designed for travelers who want big mountain views and Sherpa culture without going all the way to Everest Base Camp. You fly to Lukla, follow the Dudh Koshi valley to Monjo and Namche Bazaar, then build acclimatization with a day trip above Namche to the Everest View viewpoint area.

From Namche, the trek expands into two distinct Sherpa valleys – the quieter upper route to Thame, then across to Khunde in the Khumjung valley, before continuing to Tengboche, home to the region’s most famous monastery. You then return to Namche and head back to Lukla, finishing with comfortable Kathmandu time before departure. The result is a well-rounded Everest region experience – cultural villages, monasteries, and consistent scenic viewpoints – with a comfortable altitude profile.

Highlights

  • Scenic flight to Lukla and the classic Dudh Koshi valley trek experience
  • Namche Bazaar – the Sherpa hub of the Khumbu and a great acclimatization base
  • Everest View viewpoint day for early panoramic Himalayan scenery
  • Thame village – a quieter and more traditional Sherpa valley route away from the main trail
  • Khunde and the Khumjung valley – classic Sherpa settlements and cultural atmosphere
  • Tengboche Monastery area – the most iconic monastery setting in the Everest region
  • A loop-style itinerary that avoids backtracking as much as possible and keeps each day feeling different
  • Strong cultural depth without pushing into extreme altitude zones
  • Comfortable pacing with natural acclimatization built into the route
  • Extra time in Kathmandu at the end for a smooth, stress-free finish

Itinerary

Day 1Arrive in KathmanduOvernight: 1350 m

Arrive in Nepal’s capital and transfer to your hotel. The day is kept light so you can rest, hydrate, and settle in smoothly after travel.
If you arrive early, a relaxed walk and a calm dinner is a perfect start to the trip.

Day 2KathmanduOvernight: 1350 m

Enjoy a comfortable city day at KGH with the option to explore UNESCO World Heritage areas if you want a cultural warm-up before trekking.
Everest-region flight logistics can vary by season - if Lukla flights are routed via Manthali, this day can also be used to drive there so you are positioned for an early flight the next morning.
Overnight Sleeping Altitude is 474m if staying in Manthali

Day 3Flight to Lukla, trek to MonjoOvernight: 2850 m

After the mountain flight into Lukla, you begin trekking along the Dudh Koshi valley on the classic Khumbu trail. Expect suspension bridges, riverside forests, and small Sherpa settlements that make the first trekking day feel lively and welcoming.
Monjo is a traditional stopping point close to the Sagarmatha National Park entry area, making it a natural place to settle in and sleep comfortably on the first night.

Day 4Trek to Namche BazaarOvernight: 3460 m

You enter Sagarmatha National Park and follow the river upstream with steady valley views and famous suspension bridges. The final climb into Namche is one of the trek’s signature moments as the amphitheatre-shaped town appears across the hillside.
After arriving, you have time to enjoy the mountain-town atmosphere and settle in properly for acclimatization.

Day 5Namche | Acclimatization hike to Everest View HotelOvernight: 3460 m

A classic acclimatization day above Namche - you gain height safely, enjoy big panoramic viewpoints on clear days, and return to sleep lower.
This hike is perfect for building confidence and allowing your body to adapt before you move into the higher side valleys.

Day 6Trek to ThameOvernight: 3800 m

You leave the main Everest corridor and head into the quieter Thame valley, where the trek feels more local and less crowded. The route has a calm rhythm with open valley perspectives and a strong sense of traditional Sherpa life.
Thame is a beautiful village with an important monastery presence and a distinctly peaceful atmosphere.

Day 7Trek to KhundeOvernight: 3840 m

Today connects two culturally rich valleys as you move from Thame toward the Khumjung side. The landscape shifts as you rejoin more central Khumbu trails and gain new angles on the surrounding ridges.
Khunde feels like a classic Sherpa settlement - calm, authentic, and well placed for scenic walks and cultural visits.

Day 8Trek to TengbocheOvernight: 3850 m

You continue on scenic trails toward Tengboche, a highlight area known for its iconic monastery setting and wide mountain viewpoints. The route typically includes forested sections and open ridges, keeping the day varied and visually rewarding.
Arriving in Tengboche is special because the place feels distinctly spiritual and dramatic, especially when skies are clear.

Day 9Trek to Namche BazaarOvernight: 3460 m

You descend from the Tengboche area back toward Namche, with the trail becoming greener and more sheltered as you lose altitude. It is a satisfying return day where your body starts to feel noticeably stronger and more comfortable again.
Back in Namche, you can enjoy a relaxed evening with good food and the lively mountain-town atmosphere.

Day 10Trek to LuklaOvernight: 2860 m

A classic final trekking day down the Dudh Koshi valley, crossing familiar bridges and passing villages that now feel like old friends. As you lose altitude, the landscape becomes greener and warmer.
Arriving in Lukla is the traditional end-of-trek moment - time to relax, celebrate, and rest well before the flight out.

Day 11Flight to KathmanduOvernight: 1350 m

Fly back to Kathmandu and transfer to Kathmandu Guest House (KGH). After high mountain days, city comfort feels like a real reward - hot shower, great food, and a slow evening.
If flights are routed via Manthali, the day may include the short flight segment plus the road transfer back into Kathmandu.

Day 12KathmanduOvernight: 1350 m

A free day for rest, shopping, or optional sightseeing. This day also acts as a useful buffer in case mountain flights are delayed due to weather.
Keep it easy and enjoy a final relaxed day before departure.

Day 13Depart | Transfer to TIA

Transfer to the airport for your onward flight home.
