Overview
The Pikey Peak Trek is one of Nepal’s best short ridge treks for Himalayan panoramas, especially for travelers who want Everest views without flying into Lukla. You drive to Dhap in lower Solu, trek through quiet villages like Jhapre, and climb to a high ridge base camp before the sunrise ascent of Pikey Peak (4,065m). Pikey Peak is often described as a viewpoint where, on clear days, you can see a wide sweep of Himalayan giants including Everest and other major peaks.
After the peak morning, the route descends toward Junbesi, one of Solukhumbu’s most culturally rich villages, with time to visit Thubten Chöling Monastery, a major monastery in the Junbesi valley. You then drive back to Kathmandu with a comfortable buffer day before departure. This is a lodge trek with local teahouses and lodges along the route, selected for the best available comfort.
Highlights
- A quiet Solu Khumbu ridge trek with fewer crowds than the main Everest trails
- Sunrise climb of Pikey Peak (4,065m)
- Wide Himalayan panoramas on clear days, often described as including Everest and other major peaks
- Traditional Sherpa and Solu village life in Jhapre and the Junbesi valley
- Stay at the Pikey Peak Base Camp lodge zone for a true high ridge experience
- Descend into the greener Junbesi valley for a contrasting landscape and warmer air
- Visit Thubten Chöling Monastery, an important monastery in the area
- No Lukla flights required – a strong alternative for travelers who prefer road access
- A short, well-paced itinerary with a buffer day in Kathmandu at the end
Itinerary
Day 1Arrive in Kathmandu | Transfer to KGHOvernight: 1350 m
Arrive in Kathmandu and we transfer you to Kathmandu Guest House (KGH). The day is kept light so you can rest, hydrate, and recover from travel. If you arrive early, you can take a short walk nearby and pick up any last essentials for the trek. In the evening, we keep things calm so you start the journey feeling fresh and well-rested.
Day 2Kathmandu | Optional World Heritage SightseeingOvernight: 1350 m
This is your second Kathmandu day, so it can be used for Optional World Heritage Sightseeing while still keeping time for trek preparation. You will have a trek briefing, final gear checks, and a practical review of the Solu road journey. If you choose sightseeing, we keep it relaxed and efficient so you still have downtime. A calm evening and good sleep help a lot before the drive tomorrow.
Day 3Drive to DhapOvernight: 3000 m
You drive out of Kathmandu and head toward Solukhumbu, with the scenery shifting from city edges to terraced hillsides and deeper rural valleys. This is a travel-heavy day, so we keep the timing realistic and take comfort stops along the way. As you gain elevation, the air becomes cooler and the landscape begins to feel more like mid-hill Himalaya rather than low valley Nepal. Dhap is a common trailhead for Pikey Peak treks and a good place to rest well before starting the walk.
Day 4Trek to JhapreOvernight: 2940 m
Today you begin trekking on quiet village trails, moving through forest sections and rural settlements with a strong local feel. This first walking day is designed to help you settle into a steady rhythm without rushing, since you already start at a relatively high altitude. Jhapre is a traditional village stop that many itineraries use as a comfortable staging point. The evening is calm and the sky can feel very open here, making it a nice place to rest and prepare for higher ridge days.
Day 5Trek to Pikey Peak Base Camp LodgeOvernight: 3780 m
You climb higher onto the ridge system, and the environment becomes more alpine and exposed compared to the lower villages. The scenery gradually opens, and you start feeling that classic “ridge trek” atmosphere where horizons get wider and the air becomes crisp. Reaching the Base Camp lodge area positions you perfectly for an early sunrise summit attempt. The evening is focused on warmth, hydration, and early rest, because tomorrow is the trek’s signature day
Day 6Sunrise climb of Pikey Peak, trek to Jasmane BhanjyangOvernight: 3600 m
You start before sunrise for the climb to Pikey Peak (4,065m), aiming for the best light and clearest skies.
On clear days, Pikey Peak is widely described as offering sweeping Himalayan views, and many guides highlight it as one of the best viewpoints in the lower Solu region.
After enjoying the summit, you descend and continue trekking toward Jasmane Bhanjyang, which gives a satisfying transition from the high ridge back into quieter trail country. The evening is usually restful because you have completed the trek’s main high point.
Day 7Trek to Junbesi (visit Thubten Chöling Monastery)Overnight: 2690 m
Today you descend into the greener Junbesi valley, and the air becomes noticeably richer as you lose altitude. The landscape shifts from ridge and high pasture terrain into village corridors with a warmer, lived-in feel. Junbesi is one of the best-known Sherpa settlements in lower Solukhumbu and is a great cultural stop. You visit Thubten Chöling Monastery, a major monastery in the area that is closely associated with the Junbesi valley.
Day 8Drive to Kathmandu | Transfer to KGHOvernight: 1350 m
You drive back to Kathmandu, leaving the Solu hills behind and returning to the city. The scenery shifts through river valleys and terraced countryside, and we keep the day practical with comfort stops as needed. After the quiet of the trek, Kathmandu feels lively and convenient for a final night. We transfer you back to Kathmandu Guest House (KGH), where you can enjoy a long shower, good food, and a relaxed evening.
Day 9Kathmandu | Optional World Heritage Sightseeing, then departOvernight: 1350 m
This final day can be used for a calm morning, last-minute shopping, or Optional World Heritage Sightseeing depending on your flight time. We keep the schedule flexible so you can pack without rushing and enjoy a final relaxed breakfast. Then we transfer you to Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) for your onward flight home.
Day 10Depart | Transfer to TIA
We transfer you to Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) for your onward flight home.
